Reporting that Disney+ streaming service has topped 100 million subscribers, the WSJ article (3/10/21) wrote, "Questions loom about the future of Disney+, particularly in how aggressively Mr. Chapek decides to use it to shake up traditional theatrical distribution."
For the services and industries that got boosted by social distancing, such as remote working tools, e-commerce, and food delivery, people are talking about their sticking power. Would they maintain the same pace of growth even after the pandemic is over and we no longer need social distancing? To flourish in the post-COVID-19 era, Disney+ should be able to stream something that fans want to watch/experience but cannot do so in a theater. That would include behind-the-scene clips, exclusive interviews with actors, director's cut, actors' responses to their own scenes, and opportunities for kids to interact with the characters in their favorite Disney movies.
In other words, it should not be a choice between a movie theater or Disney+. It should be both-and, not either-or.
